Founded on July 15, 1941 by Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandi, the writer, politician and the landlord of Bengal and also the youngest son of Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi,  and Dr Panchanan Neogi, a renowned educationist, our College is named in memory of Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi, a true patriot, great philanthropist, social reformer and a multi talented industrialist, who rose to prominence during the tumultuous time of Bengal's partition in 1905.

Affiliated to the University of Calcutta , and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) Maharaja Manindra Chandra College is conveniently located at 20, Ramkanto Bose Street , Kolkata,  a stone's throw away from the Shyambazar Metro Station , in the old residential house of Maharaja. The main building hosts three Colleges in three shifts. The morning shift is a girl's College named after Maharaja's wife, Maharani Kasiswari, the day section is Maharaja Manindra Chandra College and the evening section is named after his son, Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandi. 

The Institution has successfully observed it's Golden, Diamond and Platinum Jubilee Celebrations where teachers, Students and non teaching members participated actively in the cultural programmes, seminars, fests and other activities organised by the College.  

The College campus provides an environment conducive to effective learning. Spacious classrooms,  well equipped laboratories, well stocked libraries and abundant sports facilities provide students with opportunities to realise their full potential.

All throughout it's 83 years of existence,  Maharaja Manindra Chandra College has continued the proud and seamless tradition of transforming ambitious and hardworking young men and women into powerful groups of individuals who turned out to be the responsible citizens of the Country.  A very strong dedicated and capable team of faculty has always been the driving force in the growth of the College.

We offer a wide range of undergraduate programmes in Arts,  Science and Commerce. Besides academics, our students also have excellent opportunities to participate in a wide range of extracurricular activities such as Music, Dance, Debate, Quiz, Photography, Recitation and the like, in a competitive environment.  In addition,  there are also other cultural events and community services such as the National Service Scheme (NSS) that allows students to participate in various social and public service activities, both within and outside the confines of our College. Examples of some of these activities are, Voluntary Blood Donation Camps, Thalassemia Detection Camps, Health Awareness Workshops , Eye check up Camps, Van Mahotsav programmes and the like. All of these activities together help our students develop into multifaceted and well rounded individuals, rather than staying focused only in their academic programmes.  

This Institution was created with the objective of providing quality education which will enable students not only to thrive in academics but also motivate them towards character building, leadership, extra and co- curricular activities. Our highly accomplished ,experienced and multitalented faculty, together with our small student- to-faculty 
ratio, provide an effective and student centred educational opportunity to our students.

We place over a substantive percentage of our outgoing students each year through our Placement Cell. Individual educators within our faculty take active interest in guiding and mentoring our graduating students navigate through the sometime challenging placement process. Various departments, and members of our faculty collaborate with industries and Institutions for internships and placement opportunities.
