The Department of English of Maharaja Manindra Chandra College has a glorious history that dates back to 1941. Since then, it has not only witnessed and grown alongside the institute's flourishing development into a venerable centre of learning, but also actively participated in shaping its structure. The Department has always been supportive of the holistic development of its students, boasting numerous successful alumni who have excelled as professionals and academics. Currently, the Department has six highly qualified faculty members who tirelessly strive for academic excellence, making it a highly regarded Department among students. Classes with the aid of technology, interactive sessions, extended talks, and student seminars, both Departmental and interdisciplinary, are regularly held for participatory learning. The Departmental wall magazine and seminar library help students explore beyond their regular activities. The Department proudly hosts an annual Shakespeare talk. Mementos, with the Departmental logo, are given to current and ex-students to recognise their remarkable achievements, both academic and non-academic. Apart from its conventional educational engagements, the Department also encourages extra-academic activities, such as organising film screenings, extended talks, cultural programmes, and theatrical performances throughout the year. In extracurricular activities, the Department regularly organizes excursions, sends students to intercollege competitions, and inspires students to explore their hobbies and interests. The Department plans to establish an Alumni Association to foster a network of shared interests and opportunities. The vision is to make the Department a second home for students, where they can study, cultivate, intellectually engage, and feel empowered by gaining perspectives and access to cutting-edge facilities in a safe and comfortable environment.
