Maharaja Manindra Chandra College, established on 15th July 1941 at 20, Ramkanto Bose Street, Kolkata–700003, was born out of a public resolution to commemorate Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi. With generous support from his son, Maharaja Sris Chandra Nandi, and the pioneering initiative of Dr. Panchanan Neogi, I.E.S. (Retd.), the college was founded to fulfil the longcherished aspiration of residents living north of Beadon Street to delivering quality education in Science, Arts, and Commerce to a diverse student population, primarily from lower and middle-income groups in Kolkata and adjoining areas. Over more than eight decades, Maharaja Manindra Chandra College has grown into one of Kolkata’s premier institutions, accredited by NAAC in 2011.
Upholding the values of inclusivity and excellence, the college fosters critical thinking, unity in diversity, and a blend of traditional and modern teaching methods. It offers job-oriented courses and emphasizes interactive learning through departmental and inter disciplinary seminars, presentations, excursions, and student-led projects.
Modern laboratories in Physics, Chemistry, Bio-sciences, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Commerce, Mathematics and Journalism & Mass Communication support a dynamic academic environment.
Academic collaboration is further enriched through Memorandums of Understanding with reputed institutions to promote shared learning and research. The thriving Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU) Study Centre on campus broadens access to higher education.
Holistic student development is ensured through regular NSS activities, workshops, and cultural programmes.
